ABOUT THE PEOPLE'S HARVEST

  The People's Harvest is an annual action that takes place every year on the 4th Thursday of November. We set up shop in Brooklyn, NY to bring free vegan food to our communities. 

The People's Harvest is a Black space serving anyone who needs/asks for a meal. When in space with each other on this day of blessings and community, we celebrate abundance, reclaim our space, and mark our connection to each other and the land. 

  Founded in 2019, The People's Harvest is the product of Black VegFest's organizing efforts to provide a platform and movement space for all Black peoples to define what food, health, and vegan community looks like from a Black-led perspective. 

Black VegFest started The People's Harvest to celebrate the harvest season with a space that centers our ancestral traditions, foods, voices, and sovereignty. We also affirm the extensive history of our global Indigenous heritages, giving reverence and deference to the fact that, here in Brooklyn, we are occupying unceded Leni Lanape and Canarsee lands. 

The People's Harvest takes place in Brooklyn, NY.       In 2024 we will be at the intersection of Utica Ave and Eastern Parkway  (1119 Eastern Parkway)  at  12PM !!  

We believe in creating and providing a liberatory space that affirms all Black lives and protects non-human animals. We reject any power and system - political, social, economic and cultural - that denigrates and harms Black people.

We believe in Black liberation. Veganism, as the rejection of the oppression of all beings, is fundamental in any organized movement towards Black liberation.

We believe in food justice and sovereignty. Plant-based food is one step towards equitable structures of food and resource distribution.

We believe in and we want to see Black people in the future. Black people have the highest rate of preventable disease in the U.S. A vegan lifestyle incorporated within a movement for justice, sovereignty, and equitable structures of food and resource distribution is the most sustainable option for a planet ravaged by ill health, factory farming, pollution, and overdevelopment.
